EndNote 8 patch available

I don’t know if this update will address all of the problems with the newest version of EndNote, but it does seem to stabilize it somewhat.
The problems with the latest version of EndNote really go beyond XP SP2 incompatibility, though. EndNote 8 libraries aren’t reverse-compatible to previous editions of the software; instead there is an “export to text” workaround. Importing standard journal lists with the Term Lists tool causes the software to lock up.
In my workshops, I sometimes mention how ISI produces a new copy of the software every year, whether the new features are significant enough to warrant a new edition or not, and how I tend to think of the odd-numbered editions of the software as being the best ones (kind of like the Star Trek movies). Well, EndNote 8 helps to make my point for me. Currently, I’m recommending to all EndNote 7 users that they wait for EndNote 9 and hope that it is significantly improved from this mess.
