This looks like an interesting new program. I’ll be downloading the demo and checking it out later this week. I’ll let you all know what I find.

New front page

October 24th, 2004 Stewart

I’ve updated some of my links and information on the main page, and added some more detailed information about my workshops, including standard fees.

For those who are interested in my workshops, you should be aware that I am now fully booked through to the end of 2004. Early 2005 tends to fill quickly as well, so if you are interested in having me come out for a workshop, you should contact me soon.

Also, I’ve begun dabbling with the idea of conducting “virtual” versions of my workshops. I’ve been investigating WebEx as a provider, but if anyone has any suggestions, I would be glad to hear them.

Our Robot Future

October 16th, 2004 Stewart

A friend of mine recently bought himself a Roomba and just loves it. For some reason, though, when I think about having robots in the home I think of an experience more like this one.

EndNote 8 patch available

October 15th, 2004 Stewart

I don’t know if this update will address all of the problems with the newest version of EndNote, but it does seem to stabilize it somewhat.

The problems with the latest version of EndNote really go beyond XP SP2 incompatibility, though. EndNote 8 libraries aren’t reverse-compatible to previous editions of the software; instead there is an “export to text” workaround. Importing standard journal lists with the Term Lists tool causes the software to lock up.

In my workshops, I sometimes mention how ISI produces a new copy of the software every year, whether the new features are significant enough to warrant a new edition or not, and how I tend to think of the odd-numbered editions of the software as being the best ones (kind of like the Star Trek movies). Well, EndNote 8 helps to make my point for me. Currently, I’m recommending to all EndNote 7 users that they wait for EndNote 9 and hope that it is significantly improved from this mess.
