EndNote 8 and XP Service Pack 2

Things I’ve heard on the street:
- Buggy under XP Service Pack 2 (So’s everything else right now…)
- Problems with having both EndNote 7 and EndNote 8 on the same machine
- Importing Term Lists causes the program to crash, although the list is typically imported without error
The fact that EndNote 8 is incompatible with XP SP 2 is kind of a tough call. On the one hand, many IT admins knew that SP 2 had problems with non-Microsoft programs and held off on the upgrade. On the other hand, why the hell is ISI so insistent on putting out a new version of EndNote every flippin’ year? Maybe instead of pushing for a new upgrade every summer, ISI admin should push for a new version every time that new features warrant one!
Also, for EndNote 7 users, you should be aware that there’s a new version of the Ovid Medline filter that should be downloaded. While we’re on the subject of EndNote upgrades, why doesn’t ISI set EndNote to check automatically for updates to Import Filters, Connection Files, Output Styles and software patches? This would be kind of a no-brainer solution to a lot of the problems this software can cause.
I should mention that my schedule for the Fall is starting to fill up rapidly for EndNote, Reference Manager, and other related consultation/training gigs. If you plan to use me for training in the next three months, now would be the time to let me know.
